ABOUT US...

The iCademy Globe is the online student newspaper of K12 International Academy.

 

Mission: We at the iCademy Globe believe that our goal is to inform, to entertain, to inspire, to provoke thought, and to provide our fellow students with knowledge to better understand the world around them and one another. 

 

 

iGlobe Staff:

 

Kimia Pourali, Editor-in-Chief and Webmaster

Kimia lives in the state of North Carolina in the United States. She has been writing for iGlobe since 2012. She is greatly interested in computer science/programming, history, political science, and international relations. Kimia's hobbies include playing piano and cello. She is also fond of learning about different languages and cultures. She enjoys writing and web designing for the iGlobe, and is especially ecstatic about contributing thought provoking article topics.

 

Sarah Ahmer 

Sarah Ahmer is an 8th grader at K12’s International Academy. She enrolled into the school after moving to Dubai 3 years ago. She’s the team’s photojournalist and hopes to go to NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts when she’s older for Photography. Sarah Ahmer has a vast array of hobbies, some of which are: Capoeira, painting, film making, reading, drawing, and piano. Possibly Van Gogh’s numero uno fan, her favorite painting is A Starry Night. A big music buff, her favorite artists to listen to are Beethoven, The Beatles, Madonna, Utada Hikaru, and the Black Eyed Peas (big stretch, eh?). A huge fan of Japanese culture, she enjoys all sorts of Japanese food, music, clothing, and other customs. Her dream is to be able to travel most of the world. Also a lover of movies her favorite would include Indiana Jones, Pirates of the Caribbean, The Mummy, and anything by Tim Burton.   

 

Janelle Chuah

Janelle has lived in Malaysia since she was born and she has recently joined iCademy a year ago. This year, she is a freshman. She is very active in and out of iCademy. She currently holds a position in the K12 International Debate Club 9-12 as a part of the council and is also the president of K12 International Character Ed Club. Janelle also loves camping, hiking, swimming, and bowling. She is in the Royal Rangers and aims to earn her Silver Medal of Achievement this year. She enjoys listening to Korean music all day and also hopes to go to South Korea someday.  

 

Wafaa Ateyah 

Wafaa Ateyah has been a staff writer for the iCademy Globe for about 2-3 years. She is currently an 11th grader attending the K12 International Academy.  Wafaa was born and raised in sunny Florida. She is greatly fascinated with the social sciences, childhood education, American Government, and international politics. Some of her hobbies include volunteering, tutoring, baking, horseback riding, and watching historical documentaries. Wafaa loves meeting new people and building new friendships that she plans on cherishing forever. She also plans on contributing creative articles to the iCademy Globe!

 

Katelyn Loss

Fourteen year old Katelyn Loss lives in Pennsylvania. She has been with K12 since Kindergarten, but recently joined iCademy. She loves all of the awesome opportunities iCademy provides like the iGlobe. Katelyn loves to act, sing, and play piano. She has taken voice and piano lessons for about two years and loves it! She also enjoys reading, baking, writing, and doing digital art. She can’t wait to share her creativity with others!

 

Shannon Denham

Shannon Denham is an ambitious junior at K12 International Academy. She lives in the southwest and finds herself constantly bundling up in sweaters, hoping for cold weather to come. Her interests include flying planes, drawing pictures and comics, German language and culture, and mastering the English language. She has been writing since she was 12 and has since then written almost 3 whole manuscripts. When it comes to things she likes, Shannon can talk about them for hours. Writing interesting articles for the iGlobe and aspiring to become a teacher, Shannon hopes she will satisfy her desire to share the things she loves.

 

Christina Relich

Christina lives in Lexington, Kentucky and is currently in the 9th grade.  She loves creativity, and does a lot of drawing, creates poems, and writes fictional stories in her spare time.  Other hobbies of hers include horse riding, dancing, and scouting.  This is her first year with the iGlobe and she cannot wait to spread her love for creativity.  She believes that anyone can find imagination if they look deep inside themselves.

 

Alex LaRosa

Alex is 17 years old and has been a student with k12, inc. for about a decade now. A junior at iCademy, this is his first time as an iGlobe writer. In his free time, he likes to play baseball, and he often spends long hours playing guitar and writing songs. He enjoys following current events and world news. Currently, Alex is also enrolled in one class at his local college, his first course that takes place in a classroom in ten years. 

 

Hanley Ekeren-Moening 

Hanley is 15 years old and a sophomore.  She grew up in California and is currently living in South Dakota; this is her first year at K12 International Academy.  Aside from writing, Hanley’s hobbies include reading, drawing, painting, singing, theater, 4-H, and activism.  She has two dogs, four pygmy goats, and four alpacas.  She hopes to attend the University of California at Berkeley and achieve a double major in physics and philosophy.

 

Gabrielle Toutin

Gabrielle Toutin is an 12- year-old aspiring ornithologist, guitarist, and game designer. She lives in Texas with her family and two chirping parakeets. She cannot wait to start writing for the iGlobe! She also likes drawing, reading, writing, and swimming.

 

Aria Ahmer

Aria Ahmer, (Pen name: Aria N. Ahmer) has been a professional children's illustrator for 2 years and works on the upcoming series by Randall Hendren, Ginger the Adventurous Cat. Aria is also a novelist and aspiring author working on her upcoming novel The Final Guardian, the first book in a fantasy series full of adventure, romance, and action.
